With less than two days left for Apple’s upcoming Glowtime event, many are excited about the upcoming AI features offered by iOS 18. Over the past few years, the iPhone has become synonymous with mobile photography, due to constant innovation in the camera department. This time too there is a lot of discussion about the iPhone 16 Pro series, in which many major changes are being expected.
Some good news may be received. It has been revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro will bring some new features that will improve the photography experience. From camera upgrades to new physical buttons, here are 7 new camera features expected to come to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
01. More detailed ultrawide and macro shots
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have 48MP ultrawide cameras, which, if true, would be a huge upgrade compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 12MP sensor.
The new sensor in combination with the increased megapixel count should result in more detailed images, especially in low light conditions. The upgraded camera is also expected to bring improvements to the macro mode, which will significantly improve the overall quality of close-up shots.
02. Improved video recording
According to a new report from 9to5Mac, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be able to record 4K video at 120fps, which the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max cannot. The tech giant is reportedly upgrading QuickTake from 1080p to 4K.
03. Better optical zoom for the iPhone 16 Pro
Currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple is expected to bring a tetraprism camera to the iPhone 16 Pro, meaning both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will support at least 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.
04. New Sony sensor for main camera
Apple is also rumored to use an advanced Sony sensor for the main camera of the iPhone 16 Pro. However, it is still unclear whether the new sensor will be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro Max or not.
05. Capture button for all iPhone 16 series models
All four models of the iPhone 16 series will feature the much-awaited “Capture button,” which will allow users quick access to the phone’s camera. There is speculation that the new button will be located on the right side of the device and will allow users to quickly launch apps and control actions like zoom level, and exposure, and even act as a shutter button.
06. Anti-reflective coating
When shooting in bright environments, one of the most common problems faced by users around the world is lens flare. However, Apple may have a solution to this problem.
There is speculation that the Cupertino-based tech giant is testing a new “atomic layer deposition” lens coating for the iPhone 16 Pro series, which could help reduce these reflections.
07. Support for JPEG-XL
The iPhone 16 Pro is also rumored to have support for JPEG-XL. For those who don’t know, this format supports both lossy and lossless compression and helps users save high-quality images at a lower file size while supporting wide color gamut, HDR, and progressive rendering.
